Self Development Articles: Saturday Review

This is the week’s final article in the series of summaries of self development articles. You can view all the previous summaries in the series by clicking on this category link. Self Development Articles: Saturday Review The format for the week will take this form – Monday through to Friday will be my daily summary of self development articles that I find on the web. Today, Saturday,  will be a glance back at the week with a fresh but brief overview of those summaries.  It will be so brief that I will often confine it to picking the “quote of the week.” The Saturday review will also feature a story that illustrates the benefits of self improvement. That story may come from within these pages or…

Self Development Articles: Leadership

This is another summary of a series of summaries of self development articles. You can view all the previous summaries in the series by clicking on this category link. Today’s Self Development Article – Leadership Today’s article is by August Tarak and it appeared in Forbes under the title What Every Leader Must Know About Personal Development.  To be frank I searched for a different source of articles in this genre other than Medium (the source I have previously used). This Forbes article was near the top of the list. A quick read of the article grabbed my attention. And, you will see why shortly. Favorite Quote from the Author In the Article Summary of the Article Turak prefaces his article with this quote – “Man…

Ube in the Philippines

Ube in the Philippines is everywhere! You could say it is ub(e)iquitous 🙂 When I first arrived in the Philippines, I thought what the heck is that purple stuff in the bowl of ice cream! How can anyone possibly eat food full of coloring additives and dyes? But it’s a natural plant and actually tastes pretty good. What is Ube? Its Latin name is dioscorea alata.  Ube as it is known in the Philippines is a purple yam. It is used in a variety of desserts, as well as a flavor for ice cream, milk, Swiss rolls, tarts, cookies, cakes, and other pastries. In the Philippines, it is often eaten boiled or as a sweetened jam called ube halayá; the latter is a popular ingredient…

FavFotoFriday: Eyes

Embed from Getty Images FavFotoFriday Eyes are the theme of this week’s FavFotoFriday. Just like last week I have moved away from using my own collection of photos. Why not? I am running short of inspiration. One good reason to look elsewhere for photographic inspiration is in Getty Images . I can use (legally) some of the best photos available. And shot by real experts! I have always had a fascination with eyes, whether they are unusual as in the above picture, or just stunning. Here is a small selection of some I found at Getty Images.   Embed from Getty Images   Embed from Getty Images   Embed from Getty Images   Embed from Getty Images   Embed from Getty Images Oh my! Q: When is One Word One Hundred Words?

A: When the author is Dan Pedersen. I typed in self development in the search box at Medium. I found this article A Word About Self-Education And Personal Development by Dan Pedersen. It intrigued me because it was a 1-minute read. The title also got to me. “One Word” has not to be taken literally. In Mr. Pedersen’s case it ended up as 100 words. The title got to me because as a Brit I am used to the expression, “Can I have a word in your shell-like?” Shell-like means ear. And a word is more like a torrent because the expression (which isn’t a request) means that you are in for a bollocking! Because the piece is so short I will reproduce it here…

Irregardless – WordWednesdayFun

We may have some real fun with this week’s word, irregardless. First of all, is it a word? Adam Lawrence of The Retrospective Reel is of the opinion it is. He is Canadian so I can’t accuse him of a lack of understanding of the Queen’s English 🙂 But seriously, Adam, thanks for the inspiration. He has mentioned this word (or is it?) to me a few times and I thought it is high time I formed an opinion.  My initial thoughts without any reading were that it was not a word. It was something made up by those weird speakers of the mother tongue – those damn Yanks 🙂 You know, those people who think a fanny is a butt and a fag is…
