Car Dashcams and Idiot Drivers
Car dashcams are a real answer to the problems caused by idiot drivers. That applies whether it is here in Bacolod or anywhere in the world.
Those of you who have followed this blog for any length of time will know I have had plenty to say about idiot drivers in Bacolod. I even wrote a book about it 🙂
So why should you consider the installation of a car dashcam?
This is what one review site had to say:
A dash cam can protect your finances, your time, and your personal property in a number of ways:
It can scare off dishonest people who try to take advantage of you;
it can provide evidence that’s far more reliable than eyewitness testimony;
it can accelerate the reporting and processing of an accident;
it can prevent the need to submit an appeal;
it can save you money in damages;
it can help mitigate potential spikes in your insurance rate.
A dash cam can even help you save good memories or increase your YouTube hits. But whatever side benefits you get from a dash cam, the core benefit is that it provides a rock‐solid, nearly indisputable alibi.
You have to buy one first, of course. But if it saves you from even one wrongful citation, a dash cam could essentially pay for itself.
I agree with all of that.
Like most things on the market, you tend to get what you pay for but that isn’t necessarily the case with dashcams. A good guide to quality and reliability is to be found in the Amazon reviews of all products. Car dashcams are no exception to the rule.
These products are almost becoming a must in Bacolod as the traffic is getting worse every day. Many of the locals are “up in arms” about it and Facebook is awash with disparaging remarks about the incumbent mayor. One of the major problems is that of jeepney and tricycle drivers who ply for hire. They think they own the road and simply do as they please.
I know one day I will not be able to avoid a “sideswipe” from a jeepney driver who pulls out without a signal or glance in his mirror (if fitted).
Here is a selection of car dashcams on Amazon. Please remember you can use the LBC Shopping Cart to Shop N’ Ship to the Philippines from the US.
Just check out the reviews before you buy. They are usually a good guide.

After days or more of research I found this camera to have the highest reviews I have seen. I love it so much I bought a 2nd one for the back window. It truly is awesome. The video quality is incredible even at night like it is during the day. All I did was put some black fabric tape around the chrome piece around the lens. I HIGHLY recommend this product. The picture quality is great also btw. The software has awesome features if you have the GPS and MPH option enabled. I would give this 10 stars if it let me 🙂 Great product!!
Over a year later and the cameras are still working perfectly. Zero issues.
The images are random screen shots from videos I have taking with the cameras. I love the date, time stamp and speed on the videos. The GPS coordinates are embedded in the video files. That can be pulled up using the software provided with the cameras.

I did a lot of research on dash cams before I made this purchase. I’m glad I went with the KDLinks X1. Easy to install and use, and they have some cool software that you can install on your computer that shows average speed, actual speed, and a map that shows the route. It also records sound (you can shut this off) so you can record your singing as you drive. Comes with an 8 GB memory card, but I’m getting a larger card (max 32 GB) so I don’t have to unload it so often. Pretty good clarity even at night.
I would definitely recommend this cam if you are serious about dash cams for your car!
Funny thing happened yesterday on the way home from work. This guy decided to cross the street against the light and I had to hit the brakes hard to not hit him. He stood there and started yelling at me and giving me the finger. I pointed at my camera and he turned around and walked back to the sidewalk and away from me. The video was awesome and because of the wide view of the camera it also showed that the green light was on when he was crossing. Glad I had the camera!
