Road Trip Philippines

This short video of our last road trip in the Philippines is for the benefit of would-be expats, those who are thinking of moving to this wonderful country.

It is also a demonstration that driving here can be a pleasure. Just beware of the idiot drivers.

It gives expats, tourists and even Filipinos who don’t know Negros,  a little taste of what to expect. It is a beautiful country!

I hope you enjoy the video, most ably shot and produced by Zabrina. She is the good looking one sat next to me in our car 🙂

That was the short version – my mistake! Below is the original 1m 45s version –

All of this and the road trip makes me want to save the pennies for a dashcam. It would also come in handy for filming some of the idiot drivers I see on the roads of the Philippines.

I have lived in the Philippines for almost two years. I’ve been to Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Manila, Cebu, Bacolod and Valencia City. Steve’s book ‘
How To Drive Like An Idiot In Bacolod’ covers about 98% of the Philippines. Steve paints the picture exactly how it is. If you plan on coming to the Philippines buy this book as your guide to driving. Pleased, also heed his warning about driving at night – very dnagerous. My wife and I have a car, but I do not drive, she does – and I have given up attempting to teach her the ‘proper way’ to drive.

He is also correct about the wonderful people here. The smiles are wonderful, in fact infectious 🙂 The Filipinos are wonderful to be with – I should know I fell in love with the most wonderful Filipina. Come to the Philippines and enjoy some of the best people on the Earth. You won’t be disappointed – but don’t drive yourself 🙂

I can almost feel that heat – though, apparently the temperature is about 26 C right now. I’m good with 15 degrees, but in Montreal, where I am, it can get well above 30 (sometimes almost 40 with the humidity) in the dead of summer. Yech.

    • I must admit that sometimes I do miss the cool climate of the UK, but only for a fleeting moment! We are having a hot dry spell here at the moment with highs of about 34C. It’s one of the things I like here. The highs all year round are not too extreme but it’s the humidity that gets to me.

I would love to hear from you
