Davenport goes to great lengths to describe what self-love is. And, how vital it is to foster it in order to develop fully as a person.

She then lists the 10 ways to help you find self-love. It is perhaps worth repeating that list to give you a flavor of the article’s thrust –

5. Envision

6. Explore

7. Accept

8. Change

9. Patience

10. Practice

Barrie Davenport is a bestselling author with 10 books and counting, and teaches others how to publish and market their books at Authority Pub Academy. She is a certified coach, and online teacher with several online courses on finding your passion, building confidence, and creating good habits. She offers science-backed, proven techniques for real, quantifiable change.

The overwhelming lesson is the bold way in which Davenport tackles this topic. And, what a topic! Self-love is a cornerstone of self improvement, self development or personal development – call it what you will. How can you improve as a person if you are filled with negative thoughts about yourself?

My Take

This is a wonderfully written article and full of wisdom.  Her discourse on self-love is a masterpiece! She has it nailed. For me, the listicle of the ’10 ways’ pales in comparison to the discourse. Yet, it is still a valuable step by step guide.

I particularly like two of her points in the list of 10.

Acknowledge – the author writes “Acknowledge the life-altering importance of loving yourself. Recognize that everything good in your life hinges on seeing your own unique beauty and worthiness. Accept that all of your life successes, all love and acceptance, all happiness, begins with embracing and loving who you are right now.”

I believe in the acknowledgement or acceptance of “the life-altering importance of loving yourself.” I know it can be life-altering. I once knew someone who could never change her life because she did not know how to accept and love herself.

Choose – she writes “Carefully choose your friends and associates so you surround yourself with loving, real, caring, and supportive people. These are people who reflect back to you the beautiful qualities they see in you. Open your eyes to be able to see yourself as they see you and to accept the validity of their assessment.”

That choice is so important. Be ruthless, ditch those people that don’t come up to muster.

Conclusion

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and full of truths. I recommend it to any one who struggles with the concept of self-love.
