Playtime – FavFotoFriday

Playtime Playtime is everyone’s favorite time right? And playtime is the theme for this week’s #FavFotoFriday. Thanks once more Sandy of Scribbles and Musings. I love the pic above mainly for the cheeky grins on their faces. It was taken with a point and shoot compact proving you don’t need expensive DSLR’s to capture a fleeting moment. Back to my Canon DSLR (EOS 40D) for the shot above. It was 40C in Perth and the best place to stay cool was in the pool. Kinda pool kool 🙂 I have a thing about water droplets frozen by the shutter speed. I like the effect. The shot below was proof that kids love playtime. They had a mass dive-bombing of the pool to see who could make…

España – FavFotoFriday

España España is the focus (pun intended) of this week’s #FavFotoFriday. Here is my now customary thank you to Sandy of Scribbles and Musings for the inspiration. España or Spain to many people is a wonderful country. While living in England it was easily accessible and I visited on many occasions. It is a country that for many Brits conjures up images of beaches, sombreros and cold beer. The beaches are fine but my favorite parts of España are to be found inland. To be exact, in the mountains. The mountains of Spain provide a welcome relief to the heat of the coast and major cities. It has cool clear air and the scenery is unchanged from what it was centuries ago. The shot above was taken in  Albarracin.…

FavFotoFriday: Karting

Karting is a great fun day out. Karting is also the theme for this week’s #FavFotoFriday and once again I thank Sandy of Scribbles and Musings for the inspiration for the series. I did take part in the day’s events and drove in two races. It was exhilarating despite the atrocious weather. At one stage it was touch and go whether the organizers were going to cancel the racing but it went ahead as you can see. Once I had driven in my races I donned my weatherproofs and climbed on to the media platform used by cameramen (and women). I was alone that day so maybe the weather had something to do with that? The waterproofs weren’t just donned by me. It was bucketing with rain…

FavFotoFriday: Wonderful World

Wonderful World sounds like a cue for a song! Wrong! It’s the cue for this week’s theme in #FavFotoFriday inspired by my blogging friend Sandy of Scribbles and Musings. As Sandy has pointed out to me, I am fortunate enough to have traveled fairly extensively and visited some wonderful countries and places. It’s difficult for me to select a favorite place  or even favorite places as I have marveled at so many in my travels. Each is unique. I am forcing myself to limit it to two choices although it could have been twenty, forty or more! Wonderful World Choice One … has to be Hong Kong especially the harbor. It’s a hive of activity with the ferry boats and all kinds of craft large and small…

FavFotoFriday: Nature

Nature is the theme of this week’s #FavFotoFriday series. Thanks once more to Sandy of Scribbles and Musings for inspiring me to run this series. For the purpose of today’s post the meaning of “nature” will be given a broad interpretation. The above picture was taken looking out to Navarre Beach on Florida’s Panhandle coast. It was the onset of a tropical storm. One moment the sky was blue and a typical fine Florida day, then everything suddenly went black as if there had been an eclipse of the sun. There was not a breath of wind and the birds stopped singing. It was eerie and a reminder of the power of nature. The pelican was probably hungry! It appeared to be waiting for the fisherman to reel in…

Fav Foto Friday: Kids Huh?

Kids Kids can be difficult subjects to photograph. I’m not one to set up posed pictures of people or objects. I am a voyeur behind the camera recording what I see au naturel. That is what I strive for. Although some of today’s pictures may look posed, I can assure you they weren’t. The moments were captured through a mix of patience, observation and shooting many frames until the subject was no longer conscious of the camera. Thank you once more to Sandy of Scribbles and Musings for the #FavFotoFriday idea. This young lady was in tantrum mode. I love this shot because you can clearly see that look of juvenile defiance in her eyes.   The above picture looks posed but isn’t. The subject was notorious for…

FavFotoFriday: In the Wild

In the Wild The wild can mean many things to different people. It can apply to an animal or a plant living or growing in a natural environment. It applies when that animal or plant is not domesticated or cultivated. Wild can mean untamed, feral, uncontrolled, unrestrained, undisciplined, rowdy, or disorderly. Thank you once more to Sandy of Scribbles and Musings for the #FavFotoFriday idea. And, congratulations on your award! I love the squirrel photo 🙂 The choice of photographs today truly reflect the wild of Africa. I was resting up on the outside patio of the Voi Safari Lodge  in  Tsavo East National Park following an exhilarating day on a safari drive through the park. I had left all my Canon camera kit in my room and had an…

FavFotoFriday: Brown Snake Eagle

The brown snake eagle is the subject of this week’s #FavFotoFriday post. I spotted it atop a tree in the savannah in Kenya. The safari truck was on the move at the time so I had to shoot this picture in haste. I was pleased that the bird of prey was in focus, but only just, as the top of the tree bearing its fruits is also in sharp focus. This is what Wikipedia has to say about the brown snake eagle – The brown snake eagle (Circaetus cinereus) is a species of bird of prey in the Accipitridae family. found in Southern and Eastern Africa, in countries such as Sudan, South Africa, Mauritania and Senegal. The brown snake eagle feeds mainly on snakes, being able to kill…

FavFotoFriday: Sunsets

Sunsets fascinate most people. They fascinate me, that’s for sure. I guess it’s mostly about the colours. The sky and clouds take on a different hue, as does the ocean, the mountains and everything else the setting sun touches. There is something quite magical, mystical and soulful about a sunset. As you get older, does it remind you of your own mortality? Or, are you a believer in “another day, another dollar”? However you choose to view the glory of a sunset and no matter whether it prompts you into introspection, it surely cannot be denied that they are one of the wonders of nature. The picture above was taken with my iPhone, not the best smartphone camera, but it has captured the mood perfectly…

10 Wonderful Photographs of Awesome Cute Animals (Ahhh!)

Cute animals (and birds, not forgetting mammals) are the subject of today’s #FavFotoFriday post. Here we go – Cute Koala Cute of cuteness has to be the koala bear sleeping in the tree.  Those bears are cuteness personified. I shot the picture in a  zoo near Perth, Western Australia (WA). All of the photographs were taken on my travels using Canon cameras and lenses. Baby Heffelant 🙂 Next up  comes the picture of momma elephant with her baby in tow – taken in Kenya, East Africa. Please note the African female elephant does have tusks. Cat Nap I couldn’t resist the snap of the cat perched on top of the car hood. It was taken at Seaside, near Destin on Florida’s Panhandle coast, an area I love. Seaside…
