Earth Sunday Productions: Philippines Got Talent

Earth Sunday Productions is a different kind of Philippines talent. In the past I have featured local Bacolod vocalists and musicians. These guys are involved in a film production company. The guys being Jezrel, Rap Rap, Airo and Jay. They are very good at what they do and a fun bunch to be with. You can find out more about them through their Facebook page. They describe themselves under this label – Wedding Photography & Video, Event Documentation, Advertisement, Music Videos, Audio Visual Presentation, Films. They can be contacted on +63 (0)932 8655 382 | (0)977 4740 279. Long story short, ITV Wales hired them to film me for a documentary to be aired in September 2017. It’s all about Operation Julie and my book… Read More

New Monthly Newsletter – Does Crime Pay?

A new monthly newsletter will soon become operational. It will combine posts from both this blog and my author website. The idea is to keep things separated – Bacolod and Philippines posts on this blog with all author and book related posts on my author website. The new newsletter will include posts from both sites – you may simply pick and choose what interests you and read it. I anticipate the monthly newsletter will commence at the beginning of March 2017. While I am here, I will give you a taste of what I have been up to over on my author website. It’s been hectic as I have been participating in an annual event known as Mystery Thriller Week. I have been interviewing several… Read More

Will This BBC Article Sell More Books?

Will This BBC Article Sell More Books? Now that is a good question and I have no idea of the answer. Generally speaking I am happy with the article as it is 99% accurate. Here it is in full and it can be found on the BBC news site.: Operation Julie: How I infiltrated a drugs gang By Dominic Blake BBC Radio Solent 2 October 2016 From the section Hampshire & Isle of Wight   Image copyright STEPHEN BENTLEYImage caption As Steve Jackson, Stephen Bentley lived out of the back of a van during the surveillance operation At the age of 29, Stephen Bentley, a fresh-faced detective, turned himself into Steve Jackson, a dope-smoking, hard-drinking hippy. Good Cop Bad War: Book Review

Good Cop Bad War is co-written by a former British undercover cop, Neil Woods with JS Rafaeli.  Of course I was keen to read it in light of my own book about my undercover cop days due for publication next Wednesday, September 14, 2016. You can find Good Cop Bad War listed here on Amazon. I must confess that the book initially irritated me for reasons which become clear in my review below. Gradually the main message of Woods seeped into my head and I did my research. I now agree that the UK should follow Portugal’s ground-breaking example in decriminalizing drug use. There will be more to follow on that point eventually. Amazon Review A Must Read For All Interested In The Debate On Decriminalization… Read More

Open Letter to Someone Who Knows Someone Who Knows Someone Else

This is an open letter to someone who knows someone who knows someone else. As they say, “it’s not what you know but who you know.” Of course I believe in me and my ideas. Some are good and some …. This is my latest and it takes the form of a ‘pitch’ to TV companies mainly based in the UK. Some Memoirs Deserve a TV Audience That is me in the photograph back in 1976. I was an undercover cop, an infiltrator. I infiltrated one of the largest drugs gangs in the world. By way of further introduction (in the event you know nothing about me), allow me to say I am learning fast about writing and the self-publishing industry. My first book, only… Read More

Where Many Self-Published Books Go Wrong

Many self-published books go wrong and are trashed because of poor editing. The content may be fantastic and a real page-turner but none of that will prevent most readers stopping to read your book if full of errors. Self-publishing is big business as witnessed by the giant Barnes & Noble chain now lifting its embargo on stocking self-pub books. I count myself lucky in finding my ‘back room team’ of beta readers, proofreaders and editors. They have all had a great impact on the final shape of my book. I’m grateful to them all. I have had to organize all that on a shoestring budget. I am (a) retired and (b ) not yet famous or rich enough to pay my editing team. And, almost… Read More

Undercover: Operation Julie – The Inside Story – 30 Second Movie

Here is the 30 second ‘mini-movie’ book promo trailer for Undercover: Operation Julie – The Inside Story. I hope you like it, and even more, I hope you buy my book 🙂 One of the tasks of a self-published indie author like me, is to not only write the book, but market it. Part of that involves seeking out advanced review copy (ARC) reviewers to give honest reviews of the book on Amazon and other places. Reviews are the life blood of authors. They can make or break sales of a book no matter how good a read it is. Please consider leaving a review of my book on Amazon after you have read it. Two of my ARC reviewers have given me feedback. These… Read More
