James Bulger Memorial Trust

You may recall a post here some months ago about asking for help to make it go viral.

That story was about James Bulger, a toddler abducted and murdered some years ago on Merseyside, England. It is still remembered by countless thousands pf people. It shocked the nation.

A registered charity was set up by Denise, James’ mother, and Stuart Fergus, her husband to commemorate the memory of James.

I have decided to donate 10% of all my royalties on book sales to this charity. I also set up a JustGiving web page in case any of you may wish to donate directly. Together, we can raise money for such a good cause.

This is a link to another JustGiving page with details of other fund raising efforts for the trust. And, this is a link to the trust itself.

Why Did I Choose This Charity?

James Bulger will never be forgotten. He was a fun-loving, innocent little boy whose life was so cruelly taken away from him.

Millions remember with horror the terrible abduction and murder of two-year-old James, that happened in February 1993 in the Bootle and Liverpool areas of the United Kingdom.

To this day James’ mother Denise Fergus continues to receive messages of sympathy and support from people all over the world.

And mindful that 16th March 2011 should have marked James’ 21st birthday, Denise has decided to launch a new charity to do good work in his name: The James Bulger Memorial Trust (Registered Charity No.1141125).

A nucleus of Trustees has been appointed to help administer the charity and they are supporting Denise in her determination to do good works in James’ name.

The charity will operate under the title “For James”. A number of events are being planned and volunteers are also being invited to come forward to offer their time and assistance.

The Aims and Objectives of the James Bulger Memorial Trust Ltd, are specified in its Memorandum and Articles of Association.

They are:-

“To benefit and support young people who are disadvantaged by reason of having become a part of bereavement, a victim of crime, hatred or bullying. To reward those who are judged to have shown exemplary conduct, making a positive contribution to the welfare of others, or society in general.

To do so by providing cost-free travel and holiday accommodation for such children and their families; along with a range of other tangible rewards, as deemed appropriate by the Trustees or their appointed representatives, and to support other organisations benefiting children in similar circumstances, as deemed appropriate by the Trustees.”

That is good enough for me!
